Flying Dragon rootstock

I received my Flying Dragon rootstock from TreeSource Citrus Nursery last week, and I must say I'm extremely impressed. For $130 (including shipping and permits) I got 120 *great* seedlings. They're all green, with leaves down to the bottom. Most are single stemmed, though some have multiples. They're all about a foot tall (and all the same size; clearly they've been trimmed.)

If you're in the market for 100+ seedlings, you can't go wrong with TreeSource. If you order some, tell Frank I sent you. It might do me some good next time. ;)

Of course, now I've got a lot of work to do this weekend.

Well, look at it this way. It would be about $100 for 100 rootstocks, for CA residents about $80 for 100 buds (and experience tells me you'll get a lot more than 100,) about $50 for 100 pots and trays, and $20 for potting mix, for a total of about $2.50 each. It seems to be you should be able to sell them for $8-$10 apeice, which means that you only need to sell 25-35 to pay for them all. Then the ones you keep are basically free.

Worst case, if I'd bought one each of these trees (not possible for all the varieties I'm doing) from some place like Brite Leaf I'd have paid $400+, so any way I look at it I'm coming out ahead.

Depending on where you are in CA you can leave them outside year round. I've got to bring them inside in about 1-2 months, so that limits me. (It got down to 45F last week, but now we're back to 80F day/55F night, probably into November.)

The hardest part, though, is that I didn't really comprehend how many trees 100 really was. It takes seeing them all set on the bench to realize what I've set myself up for. It's going to be a long weekend. ;)

My yard is full already.
I would not hesitate buying them if I live in the country but my wife thinks noting of it.

But I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
My wife sometimes was mad at me I stayed in the yard in the wee hours of the night.

Mark, It looks like the square pots are extra deep. Are they designed specifically for citrus? If so, where do you get them?

They're designed for any tree, not just citrus. They're Stuewe and Sons Short Ones. At $0.24 apiece they're hard to beat.

Mark, fast forward an old post but I am curious how did the grafting turn out for you? I have a suspicion you might have a mature FD fruiting of your own now?
