Vinegar is made from alcohol. Oxidation of alcohol. Alcohol can be fermented from different sources. Grains, (Rye, wheat, corn, etc,) or fruits, (apples, grapes, etc.)

Cider vinegar is made from fermented apple juice, and white vinegar from fermentated grains.

The above was found on Yahoo.

White Vinegar lowers pH, making soil acidic. Perhaps you should check pH levels before applying. If soil pH is 7 or higher, vinegar will better the soil. But, you don't want the soil too acidic either. It can kill a citrus.

Plants that require alkaline soil should not be treated with vinegar.
I add 1/4 cup per gallon of water, of white distilled, every third/fourth month. Toni

LBD - You can use white vinegar at every watering. In container culture, media pH is much less important than the pH of the soil solution. The ideal way to use vinegar is to A) Obtain some pH paper to test your water after you start adding vinegar B) Add enough vinegar to a given volume of water to bring the pH of that water down to about 6.0, and make a note of how much it took. C) Add that amount of vinegar to the given amount of water each time you water the plant.

Take care.

I would like to start using vinegar. I tested the tap water PH (7.2) and determined how much vinegar to add. Is it OK to add both the Foliage Pro and the vinegar to the water together?

Sure is..:-)

Mike

I mix it together, as well.
I start with the Foliage Pro, add some tepid water, add the vinegar, and then more water.

Is vinegar used just for citrus or should it be added when watering all container plants? I have some other plants besides citrus - figs, bananas, strawberry guava, mango, june plum, coffee, jasmine and hibiscus. Would it be good to water them with vinegar added? Thanks for your help.
