Instead of a triple sink, I would much prefer to have a double sink where one side is larger than the other for washing pots and pans, and the other side is regular sized for drying dishes or what not.

yes, I too, have always wanted to have a double sink with one very large side and one smaller (currently mine are identical and neither is large enough for skillets, pots, etc.) but looking at the triples makes me wonder if i'm missing something. I don't want to regret what I pick this time! :-)

I used a triple bowl sink in a vintage cottage remodel because the space available was too shallow for standard sizes. We knocked two inches off the back of the cabinets and then had to find a sink which fit into the remaining cabinet depth. So, I really didn't care about the third bowl but it was handy for washing/rinsing silverware and utensils since we didn't have a dishwasher.

I understand about wanting to get the sink right. When I remodeled my kitchen, I put in a single bowl apron front fireclay sink. To be honest, I don't like it nearly as much as I thought I would because it takes so long to get enough water in it to be useful. I could use a dishpan, but I don't have a good place to store one since under the sink is open for the kitchen radiator. It looks really neat, but for practicality's sake, I preferred my old cast iron small/big sink.

Linda - good considerations! Thank you for sharing. At least I can see at least one reason now for the triple bowl. Thanks Linda and also Dytecture...I agree about the 2 bowls of different sizes. That's my plan unless something comes along to derail it!

Have the one on the left to wash dishes you don't put in the dishwasher , one on the right to drain those dishes, and the center one for washing hands, veggies, or whatever else!

Crisp - that is definitely a thought. Thank you! we're planing our visit to the kitchen design store this weekend so I will have to see what they suggest too. This is almost more agonizing than choosing a name for the kids LOL!

The 3 basin sinks I've used were always a small basin in the center with the garbage disposal for rinsing dirty dishes into and pre-scrubbing before the dishes go into the wash sink (for mine, that's the left basin). and then the right basin is free to be a clean rinse sink to place washed dishes waiting for a rinse before going onto the dry rack. It speeds up the whole dish washing process having a clean rinse sink separate from the dirty disposal sink.
