Plants for Difficult Places

I want to grow some watermelons, Queen Anne's pocket melons, and Squash but I haven't got much space within fences. Will the deer eat the vines or just the young fruit, or neither. Is there anything that I can spray onto the plants to deter the deer or can I fertilize with blood meal to ward em off? Thanks.

I can almost guarantee the deer will eat your vines. I haven't found blood meal to be effective. I suggest covering the plants with cages made from galvanized wire. It's the only sure thing.

I just remebered. my girlfriend used hair to repel deer from her favorite plants. She lived in the middle of 80 acres in Arkansas so there were alot of deer. She also used bars of soap. Free to try I guess.

Hi,
Yes, the irish green soap hanging from string all around the fencing helps keep the deer away also a spray on product called deer away. I know they have not touched the iris yet! and the daffodils. all the hostas, roses, melons,rose of sharon and many other delights :( Oh, and a product called LIQUID FENCE is the best so far!
