HA! I know I am asking for a lot. I am hoping to find something at least close to the perfect plant so I dont have to do it again. And of course anything to cover the red mud is a life saver.

Look at 'creeping thymus.'

I would try Ajuga reptans (Bugleweed).

My 2 fav ground covers are creeping phlox and Ajuga.
The dogs may not like walking on the phlox, it's a bit sprickly, the Ajuga I walk on all the time on my slope to get to other areas.
Both fill in quickly.

Creeping jenny seems to hold up in my yard. It is close to the ground. The leaves are relatively large about 3/4 to 1" round and it grows quickly so you can establish a patch inexpensively. The thing I don't like about it is the yellow flowers, not my favorite color.
