Difficult spot and soil for lawn

We've lived her since fall of 2012.
For two years we have put out tons of grass seed and fertilizer, and straw and nothing thrives.
The about acre and quarter is on a somewhat steep slope and there are several very tall oaks. The understory is clear up to about 30 feet and sunlight filters through. It is not dark at all.
In another 10 years it may be very shaded.
I've tried several different blends of grass seed.
Difficult to keep fertilizer on a slope.
The Turkeys and deer and everything else seem to like the seed.
The soil is clay. It was rich soil until the People we bought it from though it easiest to scrap then to cut small trees and brush down.
What will grow and stabilize the soil in dry clay with shade on western exposure in southeast Tn?
Much of the time it is very wet but a few days, in mid summer without rain and it is dry.
