yes maybe buy a open shade tent thing like for pinic tables for cover and water twice a day or even some big plant containers filled with foxglove daylilies or impatiena etc
the choices really are endless.

Agapanthus does quite well here in Southern Nevada ... Vegas area ... give them all the sun you want ... and place then in a area with less reflected heat ... surround with organic mulch and water ... elavation here about 2,500 to 3,500 feet.

I just started growing agapanthus in the Phx area. I have placed mine under a spreading Palo Verde tree. They get dappled sunlight not full direct sunlight. So far so good. They have actually started blooming and reproducing plants.

Thats an interesting mix ... I would think the Palo verde would like things a bit drier ...

agapanthus are a very drought tolerant plant, my climate in oz is very hot and dry for most of the year and Im on sandy soil aswell. on very hot days (like 100 degrees) they can get a bit wilty if they are in full sun, but they do recover once the sun goes down, but if they get some shade they should be fine. mine get watered twice a week in summer and flower away happily. they dont like frost a whole lot and if they get too much of it they can go mushy
