For anyone interested, I just did a little research. It turns out that you can use salt, so long as it is uniodized salt.

Would you use the salt just like you would the borax? I didn't really much info about using just salt to preserve.

The statement was to add the cornmeal to the borax to reduce weight on the flowers and that adding plain salt 1 to 2 tablespoons might speed up the drying time. No specific ratios for cornmeal - borax. Salt that is used for canning would probably be the kind to use.

I guess I misunderstood. I was thinking they were referring to using salt alone. Sorry.
