I use 2 dish pans to collect the water. Then I took a 4 gallon bucket and put a drain using PVC part that allow me to connect a garden hose to it. The bucket is on the back porch. I only have to carry the dish pan to the bucket and pour it. I move the end of the hose daily when ever I am out in the garden. The cost to do this is about $1. I used some regular garden hose washers along with the PVC part.

thx for your response. sounds like a great idea. was this a plastic 4 gal. bucket? how do you insert the drain? is it similar to directions for putting a drain onto a rain barrel (which sound rather complicated, with pipe fittings, etc.)

You could use any size any bucket or barrel. I found the PVC parts in the sprinkler parts. at Home depot. I drilled a hole in the bucket. only 2 parts needed. the first part has a fitting that has both a 1/2 inch threaded end that goes to the inside of the bucket and is threaded to fit a garden hose on the out side. the other part threads on to the first part to hold it in to the bucket. I use 2 garden hose washers to stop any drips.
beats the heck out of carrying dish pans of water out. Especially when it comes time to wash veggies.

I just use a 1-gallon plastic bucket from Lowe's. I put it at one side of the bottom of the big kitchen sink, and deflect really soapy water away from it when rinsing dishes. Then for the last bit of rinsing with little soap left, I tilt the dish and my hands the other way and the almost-clean water runs into the bucket. I put this water into a 5-gallon bucket next to the door and carry that out to a bigger storage barrel once a day.
