digging for more room!

Here I go again, I just keep digging up more grass, I lay awake at night trying to think just where I can get just a few feet more. I decided to expand three beds in order to get the room I need for my spring orders. Hard to believe that in just 2 weeks my first order will be here. I should be ready for them, the weather has been summer like here for most of this past week. Here are pics of my projects. I will be moving a few around too, like Rita is doing, it is so much nicer to move the daylilies around now, rather than later in the summer. Easier for me to just get to them. This is the front bed where I am getting more room!!

Here is another bed out front that I extended out.

{{gwi:693316}}

I also added to another bed around the other side, just started it today. Here is Bowie, relaxing in the composting leaves. It is one of his favorite places to take a nap.

{{gwi:693317}}

This is a new daffodil that opened today, I really like it, I planted just a few last fall, but will surely add more of this one. It is Apricot Whirl.

One more thing, I took a daylily out of a pot and was blown away by the roots!!! This is Prediction, this is it's second year in the pot, it did bloom like crazy last summer, and I decided to put it in my new 'hot' bed, with all the orange and reds.

That's all for today. Thanks for looking!!!! Everyone have a peaceful and relaxing holiday. Cindy

Great pics CIndy. Beautiful cat and a stunning daffadil. You're so lucky to have all those beautiful rocks. Very few rocks here in the clay we have. I had to lug every stone and rock into the garden here for edging. Very tedious. Terrific roots on that DL. Must share a story about daffadils. We have deer here[who doesn't?] but a neighbour planted lots of daffadils-deer hate the smell. Everything was fine until the year the daffidals bloomed too early and all her tulips were taken. It doesn't always work as planned....:).. Just like summer here. just incredaible as the dormants are growing and frogs chirping. cheers, lloyd

Oh Cindy, you are as bad as I am, always expanding those daylily beds. When I saw the title of this post, I wondered were you were going to manage to find more spots. I remember last year you pretty much took care of the entire back and side yards with your ever bigger daylily beds.

I can't wait to see it all in bloom. I see your daffodils are about ready to pop. Be sure and post some pictures when they do.

I do like your extended areas. Now to get those daylilies planted :-))

Cindy. I think the kitties are saying,"your not taking our spot are you?".
I too have started adding onto two existing beds for new arrivals coming and created a new seedling bed to house all the seeds (over 200) I started this season. I think the weather warm-up got to us. Nothing like being outdoors. Lots of work yet to get done before planting. We also turned over the grass in the backyard for the BIG project we decided to take on this year. Taking pics as we go along.

    Who needs grass anyway? :-).

Isn't it great to do new projects in the spring!!! It is so good just to get out. Oh, all the rocks were free from a local farmer who wanted to get rid of them after he had plowed a large field. I was able to finish one of the areas today, and here are some of the daffs that are popping out!!! Cindy
In this new area will be Celestial Shore, Rough and Tough, Speedo, and Metrosexual.

Cindy- Looking good! I see your lawn is fast dissapearing and being replaced by those nice green grassy paths. I have grassy paths like that also. Paths are whats left of the lawn after gardenbeds got bigger and bigger.

The daffs look great. I see that split corona one but I don't care for that look, I guess I am too traditional in my tastes. Daffs should have a trumpet to my way of thinking. At least one I can recognize. That actually looks very close to a daylily. At least in the picture.

Off to the right side in the first new picture I see what looks like a bearded iris bed. I meant just bearded iris. I knew you had iris interplanted in some of your gardenbeds but I didn't realize you had an all iris bed. Are they all tall bearded?

How exciting! Love the daffodils! Bowie and buddy look at home.

One of my cats has been lying on a daylily. That is very dangerous for the cat and the daylily.

Just about done with the new bed extensions today, daylilies start to arrive in two weeks. Yes, Rita those are all tall bearded iris, I just love them, to bad the bloom season is so short, I guess that's why the daylilies are so great, I do have a wide variety from earlies to lates on the TBI, but they do seem to come and go so quickly. There is only a very small section of dwarf iris in that bed, all others are the tall bearded. When I like a certain flower, I just can't get enough!!! Daylilies are probably my favorite, followed by the daffodils, and then the Iris, at least there is always something in bloom!!! Boy Kay, if Bowie layed on a daylily he would be in 'trouble'. He has slept on other plants, but not the daylilies.
Hey Jean, I also planted an apricot hyacinth to go with that new daffodil. Here is a pic of a nice trumpet daffodil, just for you Rita!!!!

Those white trumpet daffs are just lovely thanks for adding them.:-))I do love daffs but they can have smaller trumpets or larger ones but they have to have trumpets I can recognize.

I have to see how my TB iris do this year. Last summer I started with the iris and this was the first winter. Now to see if they all, or mostly, bloom for me. I certainly hope so. Like I said, I didn't realize you had an entire bed of bearded iris. I hope you post pictures of the iris bed in bloom.

Love the pictures of the extensions in the beds. What a very subtle way to get more room. If I thought my husband wouldn't notice, I would do that too:) I know I have room for a few more daylilies, but just don't want to crowd too much. It will be tough for me to narrow down my short list this year.

The white daff has such a clean color to it. Very nice looking. I also like Apricot Whirl.

I'm jealous. DH won't let me dig up the lawn. He promised me a foot of bed extension all the way around for my birthday last August but never dug it. Love all those rocks too.

The white trumpet daff looks like Mount Hood. I can see the real thing if I walk out into my yard. :) Not a great view of it but a view.

    I love daffodils.
Great mail order source for Daffodils is Brent and Becky's Bulbs.

Here is a link that might be useful: Brent and Becky's

Brent and Beckies are great. Last year I bought lots and lots of lily bulbs from them, great quality. This spring I ordered from Brent and Beckies also. I ordered 190 fancy daffs in ten lots and close to 400 tulips. I will be busy when fall comes around and my bulbs get here.

I want to have more daffs planted here so that my spring garden looks more like Cindy's with all those daffs and Julie Cs garden with the mostly daffs in the spring.

Cindy, I never had white daffs although I do see a very few mixed in with some mix I bought afew years ago. But I am liking them more and more. Yours look so inviting. I think I will order at least a small amount of the white daff mixure over at Sheepers this fall.

Buyorsell888, my boyfriend doesn't like me digging up his precious lawn either, even though it is mostly weeds. But you know what? I just do it anyway. On a day I have off from work and he's working, I just start digging out a new garden, and by the time he gets home it's mostly finished. He may grumble and whine for a while, but he gets over it. I'm going to have to do that soon, I have a bunch of seedlings growing that I need a new bed(s) for, and oh no! I have to dig out more lawn. But this time, I think I'm going to make it a raised bed, since my yard has a nasty tendency to flood.

He doesn't scare me or anything it is more that I need him to do the digging. The lawn is weeds and moss and heavy clay. I have fibromyalgia and don't have the muscles to dig out the sod and dig in amendments, especially not before he gets home from work. There is black plastic edging too though where it sunk down into the soil I have chipped at the edges and gained more ground.

Ah, okay. I understand now. ;)

LOL... I soooo need to do this, AGAIN, this year! LOL... I don't know if you ever saw my Asian Jasmine removal project posted here, but I ripped out a whole bed, and replaced it with my seedlings! :o)

Maybe if I just extend the beds he won't notice! ;O)

I remember that project. I think it turned out really well and looks better in daylilies anyway so there!

DH pulled up the plastic edging and the broken plastic low voltage lights and is off to rent the sod cutter. YEA!

I also convinced him to try the "trench" method of edging instead of more plastic and that way I can sneak the beds bigger without him noticing.

    It is a good day.

I have many clumps of Mt Hood that need digging. I do this in late summer. Let me know if you all want some??
