If you have never grown a water lily from seeds, be warned that it takes patience. There are very few hardy water lilies that will produce seed naturally. Most seeds come from tropical water lilies. Most of the pure forms, which are water lilies whose seed produce the same as the parent, are the Aussie's, N. immutabilis and N. gigantea, the Egyptian Blue Lotus, which is a water lily, and some varieties from Africa. There is also a dwarf tropical that was discovered in Madagascar, not the movie. It is N. minuta. The only hardy water lily seed that I know you might get ahold of is also a dwarf and that's N. pygmaea. Seeing that you are in zone 10, tropicals will work for you without having to bring them back in during the Winter. I do have some N. minuta seeds left from last year. I keep seed from day and night bloom tropical waterlilies stored, which keeps well. Available all year round.

Hardy waterlily seed is best started fresh, available in season from any of a dozen or so hardy hybrids.
