New Computer

Something happen to our old computer, I'm not sure, not even DH the computer guru could figure out what happened. We've had this computer for years since the early 90's, so instead of trying to fix it, we just went out and bought a new computer.

The model is a HP Pavilion PC a1730n (320GB) and it was pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium. It is so fast and so easy to use and soooo quiet, I love it! What I really like about it is I don't need to install any software to upload my photos from my camera(s), I just take the memory card and pop it into the card reader slot and within seconds its all loaded.

It took me a couple of days to burn old photos and save files and transfer, thank goodness because I have pages and pages of plant names in my garden or plants that I have started from seed. It was also pre-installed with Microsoft Works 8.

We will be broke for a few months till we get this payed off but I would be lost without my computer :)

Awesome Sharon, DH made us upgrade last year too. I dug my heels in at first but now I love the new puter. Did you get a nice new monitor too? That's what made the difference for me, I could actually see all the pictures we post here.

Yeah, we got a new LCD 17" monitor a few months ago, Christmas present for each other..... for sure it makes a big difference viewing our gallery photos.

Our new PC came with the tower, keyboard and mouse.

Good for you Sharon! I've sure noticed that you haven't been posting as much lately........I've missed you!! Wow, you have 320GB! That's a lot of storage for all your plant info and pictures. Our computer is a relic now I guess. It's 3 years old, and only has 40GB, but so far that's been more than enough memory for what we need. As long as I can get on the internet, I'm happy!;^)

Isn't it funny how now a days a computer has become a necessity. I know 10 years ago I thought they were a frivolous purchase, but not anymore.

Thanks you guys, I sure I'm enjoying it, even the keyboard is different, it sounds and touches so nice. LOL

I know Laurie, 320GB is alot! DH burns alot of music, I only keep family, pets, reunions and special gathering photots on the computer, my garden photos are stored over at Photobucket. I need to get in the practice of burning CDÂs of my special photos more often in case this ever happens again.

Oh for sure, our computer is our life. LOL, I get up and the first thing I do is grab a coffee, read the email, come to the FN forum, read the news and maybe place a plant order if I'm in the mood. ;)

Ahh, thanks Laurie, I've been busying with organizing my files, plus busy at work and cleaning the garden and looking after my seedlings. If its not one thing its another.

One thing for sure the vacuuming and dusting can wait ;)

Congratulations Sharon. We've been thinking, well hubby has been thinking that we should get a new one too. Unfortunately a new Mac is about $2500. They are soooo nice though. I just can't justify it though. We need other things first. Like new basement windows, flooring in the basement and plants and trees in the backyard. :)

Enjoy, everything should be much faster for you.

Sharon, one thing that I use to store my photo's is an E-drive. The one that I have is 1GB in size and it just plugs into a USB port on my computer. It is handy when I want to print copies of photos as it will fit into the photo machine at Walmart where we can select photo's for printing.

    Cheers Al
