Hi Kenny,

Epipactis helleborine is somewhat invasive. After a few years you will feel as if you have been invaded. The first plant showed up in my garden about five years ago. I thought it was pretty and let it seed. The next year, I had maybe a half dozen plants. That was okay, but I managed to miss deadheading one. Each year, I seem to miss deadheading at least one. I now have more than I want.

The wild orchid has a very deep root so it almost impossible to dig out. It is also very long-lived -- 10-20 years.

So enjoy it, but I would advise that you deadhead aggressively.

I agree with Maureen about the deep-rooted bit. I am in my 1st summer in a new to me house, with abandoned gardens. I have been reluctant to pull at will, and have several of these in different locations all over the property. When I dug my veggie patch, I found all kinds of 'pig tail' roots, and it turns out that is what these are. Mine have none of the purplish hue, and they will be gone with the next weeding!!
