Owie! I've heard that there is some good medication for shingles, so i hope that's what you've gotten. Let us know how you're doing!

Oh Sharon, I can totall, totally empathize with you and the pain that you're going through. : ( It hurts something fierce. For anyone that hasn't had it, think of the sting of a wasp but constant and in many places. I had a case of shingles when I was in my 20's. The dr. told me it was rare to get them at that age. He thought it might have had something to do with having the chicken pox so early. I was only 3 weeks old when I got chicken pox as my brothers had them when I came home from hospital. But, my research has told me that anyone that has had chicken pox at any age can get them and it is not a new infection. It is a resurfacing of the old virus.

Nice to know that kids are being vaccinated against chicken pox now and they won't have to suffer from this.

Get lots of rest Sharon and for heaven's sake, don't move around too much. Just lie there, comfortable, and watch TV. The garden can wait.

Yes, I had chicken pox when I was a kid, kids are so lucky nowadays. Geez, I'm sounding like my granny. lol

Apparently there is a vaccine for adult shingles, didn't know that.
Looking at some photos at Google, I'm thankful I didn't get it in my face area.

Poor girl. And here I thought you were talking about your house when I seen the posting.
Never had shingles myself, but I have known people who have. They have told me it is not a very nice thing to have.

awww Sharon, that's really lousy and sounds very painful. I hope you are feeling better soon.

My kids have had the vaccine but all at different times. One at age 9 months, 2 right before starting K and the last one finally had hers last year in Grade 5. Problem is, from what I understand, that they will need boosters when they are older kinda like with the German Measels vaccine. Oh well. Its worth it -- just gotta stay on top of when they last had the vaccines!

Third day off work, I am feeling somewhat better, the pain is not so fierce as yesterday. The meds must be working.

Oh Sharon, I really hope you get over this quickly! Thank goodness the meds seem to be kicking in for you finally. I've heard that shingles can be excrutiating.....so hang in there.

I have a nephew who can totally relate to you as well Sharon. My sister called me last night to let me know that her youngest (18 years old) has shingles. I thought it was totally odd that within a day I heard of two people with it at basically the same time... he was in Emerg on Saturday night.

Sure hope that you are continuing to feel better and meds are doing their thing.

IÂve been back to work a couple of evenings now, it was tough to work but I got through it, I'm just very tired now. The rash has finally crusted over and the pain is not so fierce like last weekend. These meds that IÂm taking are wonderful! I have this weekend off and I plan on doing nothing but rest.

Glad to hear you're feeling a bit better Sharon. Now make sure you do take it easy this weekend.....maybe with a cocktail in hand too.....as long as it doesn't conflict with the meds that is.

Glad to hear it's better, Sharon. How long does it usually last? Dh had them years ago, and as i recall, he was pretty miserable with them. But i don't remember how long they lasted.

Marcia, it varies....

The rash usually lasts about 2 weeks. Including the time before the rash develops, when pain is the only symptom, shingles usually lasts about a month. However, some have pain longer; this is called post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN).

If one starts taking the antiviral medication within 72 hours of the onset of the rash (early stages of the rash), it helps speed the healing and helps prevent the
development of postherpetic neuralgia.

I feel much better today, I'm off the T-3's but still taking the antiviral med. I even managed to get out in the garden and pick some tomatoes and collect seed ;)

It was a good day today, I even managed to have enough energy to plant tulips and daffs. The sunshine amazingly lifts my spirits up.

Yes, 18 is young but he probably got it so young b/c he has alot going on medically speaking.
