Lilies August 2007

The other thread was getting pretty slow to load, so we'll start a new one.

This morning a new one to me, Menton, opened up.

{{gwi:701077}}

As well as Echo. This is just a tiny little guy, maybe 6" tall.

My lilies are slowing down a bit. There won't be much left soon. Unfortunately the heat has done the blooms in fast.

    Centerfold

    Cha Cha Cha

    Connecticut King

Mona Lisa Oriental- this one is opening really frilly this year with extra petals.

Sphinx-trying to double. Some of the flowers are only 3 petals. I've read somewhere that Fata Morgana is the only reliable true double.

Strawberries and Cream- I'm liking this one much better than Dot Com.

    Dot Com

Touching OT- the smell of the OT's are divine.

Shelley, I love your Cha Cha Cha. Large enough for a trade???

Gillian, here is a closeup of my Moneymaker that I took this morning (after a trip to Walmart for two $2 clematis and one $2 tree peony)...

Here are some more lilies from my yard...

Ahh we all have such beautiful lilies! I love all these photos.

My lilies are slowing down too, but I still have some new Orientals to look forward to.

    Here's one, Muscadet
    {{gwi:701085}}

And the ever popular DotCom: (ewww I just noticed the gross dead peony bud below it... how embarassing!)

Brenda, I only bought one bulb of Cha Cha Cha this spring at the hort sale. So I won't be able to trade this year . I'll keep you in mind. Dimples is alot the same and I'll be able to trade that one. I'll let you know which other's I can trade soon.
    Cannes- I love the color

    Landini

    Uncle Albert

Lavender Ballerina-I don't know why it is called this.

    Shelley

Shelley, i have no idea why they would call it Lavender Ballerina - definitely red for me too!

Gil, i love the look of Muscadet - can't wait for mine to open!

Here are some of mine that are opening now. I think this one is Sunny Crown but i can't find the tag.

I don't remember the names of all of these anymore (and i also don't remember planting so many orange ones - but, oh well!):

We really should of named this thread part 2, afterall its still July ;)

Gorgeous lilies everyone! I love Cha Cha Cha too Shelley!

Its hot out there still, my lilies are sure not enjoying this searing heat.

Another mislabeled lily bulb, was supposed to be Aurora Borealis.

More lilies are opening now. This one i labelled as Yelloween but then i realized that it's Yellow Princess. I don't even have Yelloween! LOL

    Sunny Crown:

This one is called Peachy Keen. I had to get it - we had a dog called Peaches and of course she often got called Peachy Keen. Heck of a good dog - the kids loved her a lot.

More blooms on Centrefold. I love this lily!

This is a Noid, that positively shines. Marcia, it looks similar to the one you have called Stones. Whatever it is, it's one of my best right now.
    {{gwi:714879}}

I love the way this yarrow is framing China lily.

That is pretty with the achillea. You couldn't have planned it any better, eh? :)

Comparing your lily with Stones - i think yours has more recurved petals than mine, and the anthers on yours are red while mine are brown. I do like the red anthers, though! So now you have a lily mystery to solve!

Marie, that yarrow compliments China soooo well!

    A couple more today.

    Zagora
    {{gwi:703251}}

Kentucky. Did anyone else have problems with Kentucky blooms not lasting long in the heat? My first bloom didn't even last a day.:(

There's only a handful of lilies left to bloom yet. I sure hope it'll cool down a bit so that they last longer.

    Orange Art opened up today.
    {{gwi:701693}}

About the yarrow and the China lily, that combination was a total accident. I had originally dug up the yarrow and was going to dispose of it because of its sprawling , spreading and not to mention reseeding issues, but by the time I reached the backyard I had a change of heart and planted a piece at the back of this bed. This spring it promptly flopped again, but as a result combined nicely with the lily. So I guess I'll keep it, for now anyway.

I am challenged when it comes to deliberately combining perennials attractively the first time around. Hence I enjoy my successful accidents. Thanks for the compliments, Marie

The lilies just keep on comin'! :)

I'm not sure of this one. It may be Amethyst Temple:

Can't remember the name of this one:

    Here's Robina:

    Medail:

Cancun. This one may have been mislabeled. Last year, many of you said it wasn't Cancun but there wasn't a concensus as to what it was.

    American Journey:

    Peachy Keen again:

Wow, ladies! You all have some really striking colors. I love the one's that look like they're blushing...like Medail and Heather's promise :)

My lilies are just getting into the swing of things. Alot of them are new this year, too, so its been fun watching them open.
    Yellow Pixie

    Orange Tiger Lily

    A few more new ones......

    Altari
    {{gwi:714911}}

Dizzy had a few petal ends dried up for some reason.

    Casablanca

    Boogie Woogie

    Elgrado

That's funny Marcia, your "possibly not Cancun" looks sooo much like my noid that came with the house! But mine has been done blooming for a month now so probably not. American Journey is awesome, it looks so big & shiny.

Laurie, my Dizzy had some burnt petals too, I'm almost sure it's the heat. But still, wow I like this one! (can you tell I also like Nigella, LOL)

Just a couple more Orientals left to open up. Definitely my favourite new one this year is Muscadet, I can't get over how much I like it.

I used to think that these were Northern Carillon, but now i'm not so sure. They're a little smaller than they were last year.

Is anyone else not geting some of the latest photos? I wonder if its photbucket...I've been losing recent pics off there lately.

Hm, I haven't had any problems Toots. Photobucket was really sucking for me this spring, it was so slow to upload new pics I just gave up half the time. But it's ok now.

Must... get... Triumphator! LOL. What a pretty pink colour. I really like the Crown series too. I wasn't going to buy any more lilies was I?

I've been busy so I really haven't had time to post any pictures of my lilies lately.
I started back at work part time yesterday and last night felt like I had been run over by a train. But today was a much better day.

Dizzy is still blooming strong for me.

My last of the tangos that I ordered from Veseys started blooming. This is not Cappucino, but another Purple Reign. The only Tango out of the five that I ordered was Dot Com that was true.

Northern Carillon OT. I can't say enough about this cross of lilies. The size of the flowers and the smell.

    Northern Star OT

Stargazer Oriental. I think these bulbs are 3 years old now.
They are both in the same area, and this year decided to be a little bit different colored.

Sunny Crown OA is my favorite of the Crowns. Although Fancy Crown has been blooming forever.

    Touching OT

    Zagora OT

And last but not least, old fashioned tiger lilies.

I only have 2 more that will soon bloom.

    Shelley

Marica your Northern Carillon is still beautiful, maybe they need to be divided if the flowers are smaller this year.

Here is a better photo OT Altari, after the rain last night, it looks very happy!

Oriental Angelique, the stamens are nearly as big as the flower!

    Sharon

I almost missed this ones blooms. This is the last bulb to bloom, the others are finished.

You know you have too many lilies when....? What is going to happen when I put in the other 20+ kinds that I have ordered?

I just lost a whole post here. >:( Hit preview message and it went to a log-in page and when i got back here all was lost. So.... Here goes again!

Red Dutch, slightly larger blooms than last year:

    Muscadet again - so pretty!

Here are all the Orienpets. Now that i look at them, they look like several different kinds. Oh, and you can see a bit of American Journey in the back ground.

This is Starfighter. It's planted with the daylily 'Startle' but that's not going to bloom this year.

There are a few lilies left to bloom and there are some that won't bloom - they have brown leaves or brown bud. One of the ones i was waiting for is Golden Stargazer and it won't bloom this year. :(

Good thing the season is close to an end instead of just beginning for me. My camera has broken. I can take pictures but I can't see what I am taking. I've got a crack in the viewing part. It'll be going to the doctor today to see how much it'll cost me to fix.

My Asiatic Megan is really far off from the photo at Lily Nook, I'm wondering if the colour will improve next year, will see.

Well Shelley, I got a hold of Veseys and I will be credited for $16.85 of mislabeled lilies and $6.31 for a dead Sib Iris.

    Sharon

Here is a link that might be useful:

Sharon, that is quite the difference in Megan. Maybe the heat had something to do with it. I was assured that my one lily that I thought could have a virus was not. They told me that it was the heat/weather.
I also received credit for my mislabled lilies from Veseys. I asked for them to be replaced, but they told me that they couldn't. The funny thing is that they are offered in their catalouge again.

I hope so Laurie! That's it, I will never order live plants or lily bulbs again from Veseys.

Here's an unknown that is blooming today, its definitely an Asiatic. ItÂs probably blooming late because I moved a bunch of lily bulbs from an area that had too much shade last fall. There is a Moonstruck tag near it, but MS is white. Any ideas?
