Sharon, you haven't had much luck with mail orders, lately! It IS a pretty thing, though. Shame about the other fan.

Here's a new one that followed me home a few days ago. It's still in its pot until I can find a suitable spot. I'm thinking it will need to grow in a little bit of shade so the petals don't melt. It's called 'Daiquiri'. Lots of very soft pastel colours in each huge flower; I adore the yellow and green throat.

This one is possibly 'Catherine Woodbery' ('Woodbury?')--although it has no fragrance. I'm not sure if CW has darker pink flowers--these are very pastel. Given to me by a friend who no longer wanted it. It's been a very faithful bloomer.

'Mary Todd'--a tetraploid with huge, thick flowers. Semi-evergreen, but totally hardy and vigorous. The top flower is a polytepal bloom--4 petals, 4 sepals. Lots of strange things in the garden, this year.

The pink one Syreeta & North53 posted looks a lot like the 'Fucshia Dream' I planted last year - that has unfortunately not bloomed yet. I guess you would have to look up its stats, it's supposed to be a tall one but not a huge flower.

Gil, I looked up 'Fushia Dream' and I don't think mine is that one. You'll have to ask Sierra what it is as I might of gotten it from her.

I just went out and measured the flower, and it's easily 7" across. I think that would be considered quite large. I tried googling Fuschia Dream Daylily and only found 1 picture, but most sites did say the flower was 7 1/2". So Northspruce that might be it.

Sharon, that's the first time 'Hearts Afire' has thrown a mutated flower like that. And it only lasted a day. This seems to be the Year of the Mutants in my garden.

Shelley, sorry, to be the carrier of bad news but...I am thinking that you may have received the wrong daylily.

This is my Eenie Fanfare daylily. It is a miniature daylily, blooming at only about 12-15". I took this picture in the sun so it is not quite as good as it should be. I really like the coloring.

Thanks Brenda. I bought it locally a few years ago and was surprised that it was so orange. Diappointed actually. (I don't care for orange on flowers) The flowers are probably close to 30" tall. The flower form is identical to yours. I'd say I have Autumn Red. Oh well.

Marcia - your lovely prolific one...my neighbour has the same one, a clump that is about six plus feet across. Just found out that I have a little one in my yard too...bloomed the first time this year!! :-) I'll see if she knows the name.

So far I have that one, Frans Hal, Stella and Uncharted Water. Stella's done, so are the Uncharteds, the mystery one is just starting, and I'm begining to think that my little Frans isn't going to bloom this year...wait and see.

DH is NOT going to thank you though...LOL!!! My whish list is getting rather huge! ;-)

Al, the daylily you bought with the tag saying Black Eyed Stella has to be mislabelled. On the Black Eyed Stella only three out of the six petals have the eye zone.

Yours has more of a spidery type look to it. Definitely a keeper though...just have to label it 'Not Black Eyed Stella'. I like the faint eye zone on the back three petals in your daylily.

The daylily that has only bloomed once in 5 years...maybe it just needs a new location? I have a few like that. With my flowerbeds being as full as they are, some under and closer to trees are just not as happy as the ones in full sun. I know Alaqua has bloomed in the past but not this year...I think due to the tree it is close to.

Hi Al, the one that isn't 'Black Eyed Stella', I think is one of my favourites called 'Bonanza'. Bonanza is 2'-10" tall. If it's taller than that, it could be 'Lady Neva' which looks similar but is 3'-6" tall.

Thanks Gil and Brenda. I didn't think that it was a Black eyed Stella as it is too tall. This one is about 18" to 2' high so I think that it is the 'Bonanza'

The daylily that hasn't bloomed in 5 years, is in full sun and does not have any trees close by. I may try moving it to different location just to see if there is something about that particular bed that it does not like. When I made it there was a lot of clay in the soil and I didn't take it out like I usually do and backfill with good sail. The soil in the bed tends to get hard and dry. Last year we had more moisture than we have had in other years and it bloomed. So I think that I will try to put it where It will get more moisture, if it still does nothing I will toss it.

The markings are similar, but yours has a lovelier background colour--unless the lighting or camera has changed the shade somewhat (although the Marigolds look very yellow). Bonanza is definitely gold.

Someone gave me some seeds in the Fall of 2004 and I planted them in the basement under grow lights that winter. Last summer I planted them out in the old veggie garden. I've only had a few to flower this year, so next year I hope to have lots of surprises.

So that's how you got your seeds to germinate, sow and put under lights, how long did they take to germinate? I tried WS'ing some DL seed with no luck.

This 1st flower was giving me doubles (the 1st three). I couldn't get the camera to capture the right color at first until I changed the setting and of course the next one was a single. Went out today after work and the next one is a double again, although smaller than the single.

A nice gardenbuddie sent them to me in the Fall of 2004. I was told to put them in the fridge for 3 months. I took them out probably Jan 20-05 and potted them up and put them in a large baggie. In 5 days they sprouted. They just looked like tiny blades of grass.

I probably waited a week or two and then transplanted them into individual plastic cups and kept them under my grow lights in the basement. This is what they looked like in May-05.

Then later that summer I planted them directly into my old veggie garden and prayed that they would survive the winter. I did throw a little straw over them which was probably a good thing, as we didn't have much snow last year for the first time ever.

Planted them July 20th 05 in my old veggie garden. The rest is history. I only had about 5 that flowered this year, so next year I should have more surprises.

The daylilies were looking so fresh after the morning rain. They just begged to have their pictures taken.

Wow, you've still got quite a few buds to bloom yet on Orchid Corsage! Maybe, maturity does matter with fragrance? Or possibly environmental factors play a role, like cooler nights now? Trahlyta doesn't seem to have those pinched petals yet, but again, I'm sure that'll come with maturity. It's already got that nice rich colouration goin' on. :)
