If you could only have five...

I know -- I hate these questions too. But I'd really like to know what your favorites are. Here are *some* of mine:

Siloam Neal Berrey

Ruby Spider

Bella Lugosi

Gentle Shepherd

Cleo (very, very fragrant, not a standout, but Cleo was my grandmother's name so I love the daylily)

Wow hard one, there are so many that are new and I haven't seen, but of my older ones....These will always have a place in my garden....

    Beautiful edging
    Destined to see
    Witch stitchery

If I could only have five, it would be:

    Shores Of Time
    Moonlit Masquerade
    Blue-Eyed Butterfly
    Court Magician
    Autumn Wood

But I really hope I never have to limit myself to just 5!

Autumn Wood [ on want list]
Destined to see [ on want list]
Indian Giver [should see blooms this year]
Bella Lugosi [ on want list]

FYI there is not a Siloam Neal Berrey there is a Neal Berrey which is lovely it may be the one your are refering to.

    Here is my choices
    Orchid Corsage
    Kings Favor
    Age of Aquarius
    Sherry Lane Carr
    Charming Charlie

Plus about about a hundred more, it would indeed be a sad day to have only five. I didn't even check thru all my photos when making the choices above the list or I couldn't have selected only five.

From those I have I "think" I would choose these:
    Pandora's Box
    Orchid Corsage
    Beautiful Edgings
    Bela Lugosi
    Moonlit Masquerade

Destined to see & Orchid Corsage are wonderful too. I have Autumn Wood & recently received indian Giver, but haven't seen them bloom yet. I noticed someone mentioned Gentle Shepherd. I have that one, & beautiful bloom but it has never bloomed very much or for long for me. Maybe I need to try it in another location.

"FYI there is not a Siloam Neal Berrey there is a Neal Berrey " -- Betty, you are so correct here, and thanks for mentioning it. My daylily is actually Siloam Olin Frazier. I bought it with Neal Berrey and, for the life of me, I don't know why I can't get those names straight. I've called it SNB from Day 1. Sr. moments, I guess.

Sayhellonow don't worry I have plenty of my own Sr. moments. I have Neal Berrey and knew it was not a Siloam checked Tinker's DB to be sure. My sister and SIL both call me to come over to ID their daylilies as I seem to remember better than they do what cultivars they have but then I love daylilies.

I have a question. I notice several of you have Moonlit Masquerade. I have seen pictures of several daylilies that look somethign like that, including Spacecoast Sea Shells. I would like to know why you like M.M. best, as for next year or in the fall I want to order one or more with those colors. Thanks.

    Elizabeth Salter
    Pure and Simple
    Julie Newmar
    Midnight Raider
    Spacecoast Sweet Eye

    Oh, wait! Francis of Assisi
    Respighi
    Mildred Mitchell

    Missylin,
Moonlit Masquerade is a prolific rebloomer for me. There are many great ones with purple eyes, but no other reblooms as well or as often for me.

    Evening Enchantment = Purple
    Artic Lace = White
    Cimarron Rose = Red
    Shores of Time = Pink
    Big Smile = Yellow/Pink Edge

    Just one more:

    Alabama Jubilee = Orange

Gotta Have a Yellow = Big Bird

If I can have eyes, edges, ruffles, UF, Spider, "OK there's more" what am I forgetting??? I guess I couldn't have just 5. I would miss out on so much!

This is fun!!! Thanks for starting it. Mona

    Indian Giver
    Sugar Candy
    Destined To See
    China Veil
    Blueberry Breakfast

Phew, that was hard! Do you notice that all of these are or have some shade of purple in them?

    The next five:
    Key To My Heart
    Femme De Joie
    Longstocking
    Final Touch
    Moonlit Masquerade

Hmm, that's a tough one. Out of my daylilies right now, I'd have to keep 'Dallas Star,' 'Bright Sunset,' 'Night Beacon,' 'Maude's Valentine,' 'Ida Miles,' and 'Chenango Rose.' (Oops, that's six!) I'm not even going to go NEAR my wish list, lol.

Thanks, Debra. I added Moonlit Masquerade to my list. Though I am trying to have only evergreens as I live in Florida, it sounds like a winner and reasonable. Do you think it would prefer the east or west, being as that it has a dark center? Does anyone know if it acts like a SEV or Ev in Florida? I've been told some SEVS act like EVs here. I think it's too hot to order any more this season, though. :(

These would be mine from 2007:

Bill Norris - Rebloomed for me, had to cut off final scapes due to snow
Apple of my eye, Singular Sensation, Victorian Lace, Springfield Clan, Wineberry candy, Monterrey Jack, Kawarthas Natures Splendor and kawarthas Natalie. The last 2 were hybridized by a friend and was recently registered in 2007. There are a few more that I wouldn't get rid of, maybe a top 20 and I could make my mind up. Mike

I don't have a great many, but I love these:

Snow Blizzard - tall, light cream-yellow double with big blooms
Peach Magnolia - tall, beautiful peach double with big blooms
South Seas - gorgeous vivid deep coral
Red Volunteer - beautiful rich velvety red with big blooms
Cabbage Flower - pretty early yellow double that reblooms well

I bought 'Shores of Time' this year and hope it turns out as well as everyone says!

    Missylin,
Moonlit Masquerade should do very well in Florida. It was hybridized there. It won the Stout Medal (the top award for daylilies) and does well in all parts of the country. The dark eye does not fade in full sun. It has more buds if it gets at least 6 hours of sun a day. I have a clump in full sun (8 hours) and a clump in part shade (5 hours of sun). Both bloom and multiply well. You should have foliage on it year-round. I always have some foliage on the clumps here in Tennessee, but the fans shrink during the coldest months of January and February. Then in March the foliage plumps up again.
