Last year, I had a dianthus sprout in a container. From where, I have no idea, because I haven't had dianthus in the garden in years.

Thats interesting. I had a rose a few years back that bloomed pink then it grew a shoot that bloomed white. that winter the white cane died and the bush is now all pink again.

I have fox glove growing in a shade garden this year, I have never had foxglove who knows where it came from?

Glad to hear others have strange thinkgs happening.

So the peanut (archis hypogea) has a little jovibarba growing in it. Cute!

Just for your info... jovibarba are called rollers, sempervivums are hens and chicks. I can see in the background that the mature plants have lots of little plants with them and they are the type that will roll away from mom. I am finding little rollers (jovibarbas) 3 or 4 feet away from the mom plant in my yard at times.

The jovibarba and sempervivums are both plants that need very little soil or moisture to survive.

Never seen one growing in a peanut shell before though.

Thanks for the info & clarification Brenda! I guess that's the trouble with common names like 'Hens & Chicks', it's easy to lump similar plants together based on their appearance. That said, I'm thrilled to find out I have jovibarbas in my garden (they are actually in a trough)!!! Now, I know for sure that the ones I got at Canadian Tire yesterday are Semps, the label said so. :)
