Sultane figs

Im wondering if anyone has experience with the Sultane fig on the Raintree website. I don't really have room but am feeling tempted. I am in a cool summer Pacific Northwest climate (Zone 7 or 8 Southwest Washington). I lose a lot of main crop figs (Petite negri and Brunswick) to October and November chill and rains. They get moldy. For some reason I had a few main crop on my Desert King this year which isn't supposed to happen, but maybe it's the climate. Sorry about rambling. I might have to get a divorce if I buy another fig and get caught so I really want to know if it is worth it.

Unless you have a green house. Otherwise Go with GINO. It ripens main crop here by mid Sept till early Oct. Its productive too and no issues with rain so far. It ripens earlier than Marseillies VS, HC, Negronne, Sal's. Desert King rules supreme in my zone. I am trialing Grantham's Royal and hopefully its breba crop is tasty. I was away when the breba crop ripens just when DK harvest is diminishing. Perfect timing. My GR is a 2 year old tree and this coming season will give me a better idea. Another very nice tasting variant is Longue d' Aout. It ripens a good proportion of main crop. Better than Brunswick any time for this zone. I like it better than Capelas & Stella.

Paully I will research your suggestions. Looking more at the Raintree site Im not sure Sultane is really different from Petite negri. It sounds very similar, and I already have one of those. Probably not worth it.

I hope you are right about Desert King, mine has about 50 branches, rough count, so if each gets 2 or 3 figs I should be in fig heaven. That's very optimistic though and depends on how many hard freezes we get. The embryo figs on that one seem to have come through the few 18 degree days ok so far.

That Sultane fig sure looks pretty though, ebony blue-black and supposedly red inside. Again, like PN.

I agree with you about the looks of Sultane fig. It looks pretty. I don't have it yet not because I did not try to acquire it but may be in future sometimes. My climate is very cold in the winter but our summer are a bit different and hopefully it will grow better here but I know that the colour may not be as good as we see in the pictures because of short cooler summer.

I really loved its look. I am going to order it. I have a space for another 6 Fig trees and sultane will be one of them. Also I am adding Violette Bordeaux, Black mission, Dessert King, Texas Blue Giant and Hardy Chicago although I have one but still little. I will be having 14 fig trees. I have two raised beds which I felled 2 years ago with unripe fruits, tree leaves and grass clippings. It is very rich soil now. I Planted in these beds 6 green peppers plants last year I never saw green pepper trees go to 6 feet and abundant production of fruits. I hope the Figs will do well in these beds.
