I just planted two fig trees (Desert King & Osborne Prolific) in my backyard. They are almost 3 ft tall, with no branches. Along the stem, each has about 5-6 little "buds" like these below. Are these vegetative buds, or breba figs? Any advice on how to prune the trees this winter? I want to keep them under 7 ft tall. I'm thinking of two ways: I could either prune them half way back now OR I could let the trees grow, and prune / remove all shoots along the upper half in late spring.
