You can also try figtrees.net for Italian fig trees.

Spinonitaliani, I have a fig tree that is suppose to have come from Abruzzi. It is too small to get cuttings from this year. Next year if all goes well I will have some cuttings available.

I got this fig tree from a friend of a friend in NJ that said his brother brought it to him from Abruzzi. (could be Abruzzo the guy had a thick accent)

The fig is dark. I have not eaten one yet, but it is suppose to be good tasting. I planted this fig in my yard this spring. It did put out fruit that did not rippen for me this Fall. The man said the fig puts out two crops of figs if there is a mild winter in NJ. I live in Arkansas so I am hoping it will do well in my climate.

Vern

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for the responses. I am in contact with Mediterranean Flora Garden for some fig cuttings this season (can't wait!) I'll also try figtrees.net because I know I'm going to get addicted to figs!

Vern- It would be great if I could get some cuttings. Any tree from Abruzzo is worth trying (and yes...the region is named Abruzzo, the variety is Abruzzi, so that is perfect!) Look forward to contacting you in the future.

Thanks again!

My parents are from Abruzzi and have grown trees from their home town for many years. A beautiful, large tree, unfortunately, was destroyed in a fire about 7 years ago but my dad got me some cuttings from the same tree that a relative still has. I was able to root 2 successfully last year and hope to get more cuttings this year. The tree has been unprotected over winter and still produces a full crop of the best tasting figs I've ever had. If I knew how to post pictures I'd do so.

Here is how I go about posting pictures here on the GW/FF

I hope this helps.

Abruzzi figs:

Thanks for responses.

seven333- If I could get some cuttings from that tree this or next season that would be great...by the way, which city are your parents from? Thanks.

I'll see what I can do. I haven't gotten any cuttings yet this year but I hope to soon. My parents are from a small town called Montecilfone, maybe half hour or so west of the Adriatic.

Thanks. If you ever get any cuttings post something or let me know...I'd love to get my hands on some Abruzzese figs!

Encanto Farms (Jon) does have an Abruzzi fig.
I think that I had seen it offered as cuttings before.
Check early Feb for the list

Speaking of Mediterranean Flora Garden, I haven't seen Maggie posting lately. Anyone know if she's OK?

I am sure I read where she said she does not like to post here because of the pop-ups. She is on the other forum often. Her web site has an e-mail address to write to.

She is out of town right now!

Will be back in a few days.
