I can't really help you out with accurate information on where to obtain them from but I'm wondering if you have contacted CN or CP and what the response was. For that quantity, they should be able to provide them, wouldn't you think?

Your question about railroad ties! You could try Hillside greenhouses between Onoway and Calahoo. They used to advertise railroad ties but I do not know if they still carry them, but they may know where you can get them. I believe they are in the Onoway phone directory. You could also try some of the lumber yards, sometimes they also carry them.

A couple yars back we tried to find some we were told that they were no longer available because they are have to handled as hazardous waste and disposed of. We scouted out a few areas and gathered our own...probably not an option near a city.

Azure, I live in Camrose and two years ago I built a retaining wall with some ties I bought at the UFA store here. They were way lighter way less tar, easy to work with. I think I paid about $7.00 each for them.

UFA in Spruce Grove and Fort Saskatchewan have RR ties but make sure you look at them before you have 400 delivered because some RR ties can be rotten and not uniform. Nelson Lumber on St.Albert Tail also has a lot for 7.50 each.
