I'm not sure that I have done these ones right, either, but I w/s'd my Malope and Tradescantia in January this year. I haven't done these before. I w/s'd, very successfully, the evening primrose last year. I was planning on w/sing the lunaria and nigella in mid March when I w/s the rest of my annuals.

If anyone can confirm that this is all going to work OK, it would be appreciated.

Nigella self-seeds in my garden so it should WS fine. Unless "Hispanica Exotic" is something really different that I don't know about. Dunno about the others.

I winter sowed evening primrose this year. Tradescantia is supposed to be zone 3, isn't it? You should be able to WS it fine. As for the rest, like Shauna, do them later, March or April.

Tradescantia x andersoniana 'Mixed colors' is the seeds T&M carry. The common name is spiderwort. The research I could find on it mostly states that is a zone 5, but I have found references stating zone 3. I also found one reference stating that only some colors (cultivars) were hardy to zone 3. We'll have to give it a try and see what comes back for us next spring, I guess.

I'm wondering what we will get germination-wise, tho. I picked up my 2005 catalogue to look it up and they offered "100% more seed than last year". The 2006 catalogue gave it away as a free with purchase. Makes me wonder: Either it is a very prolific seeder or they got a huge amount of it in about 2002 and no one bought it. lol But it looks so pretty in the picture.

Syreeta, IÂve successfully WSÂd them all except the Malope Vulcan, however, they should be a good candidate to WS just like most species in the Mallow family.

Lunaria self seeds here.....so should be able to be winter sowed.

I tried wintersowing malope last year and I didn't have much luck in zone 3. I'm trying them indoors this year. Good luck.

Wouldn't Malope be a good self seeder like hollyhocks? I've never grown it before but w/s'd it this year. I guess I better plan on some into my indoor flats then.
