Pruning question

Hi all,

We have a Black Mission tree that was planted two years ago and that did nicely with fruit this past year. However, it's tall and spindly, and I'd like to prune it by removing a few large branches, and cutting other tall branches down in size. We're in Southern California.

I'd thought I'd wait until late March or so, but I notice there are green buds starting to appear. I guess this would be the initial breba growth for this coming year.

Should I go ahead and do some serious pruning now instead of waiting? Or is there any advantage in waiting?

Thanks for your help.
