Most likely does not need water or fertilzer. Water only when in extreme dry conditions, and fertilze only when growth is less than 1 foot/yr.

If you cut back severely, this year's crop will appear too late to mature. Instead cut back one half of tree severely this year, then the other half next year. In the following years, cut back all previous year's growth back leaving only one or two nodes on each branch.

I am not sure if it will help but I was just reading the artcle on pruning at the URL below an hour ago and got a bit confused with crop classification (on current year growth and previous year growth) based on fig colours and paid more attention to this aspect (but with surprise) than pruning. Can someone with fig growing knowledge comment on the classification in the article mentioned above? How common knowledge is the statement (quote) "Figs are grouped and pruned according to their flowering habits: 1- those that produce flowers on the season's new growth (White and Brown Fig varieties), and 2 - those that bear fruit on one year old or older wood (Black Fig varieties). I think 'Desert King' does not fit this statement.

Breba only varieties have fruit only on last years wood. The rest have their main crop on the current season's growth/wood. Some have both crops. Don't think color is the determining factor is fruiting characteristic.
