Two years ago I received a trade labelled Erynguim planum (2-3 feet). From what I read on the internet, the expected height for this plant was consistent with what was labelled, so I planted them in what I thought was an appropriate spot.

They bloomed for the first time last year and they were HUGE..to say the least. These plants got well over four feet (almost 5 feet in my garden and 4 feet in my mom's garden (Calgary as well). They start off with silvery foilage and as they mature, they turn blue, but they never really turned into a really deep blue as I saw in some of the internet pictures. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures.

They were planted in full sun in both gardens, but unfortunately they had to be staked as they flopped over due to their size.

Does this sound like the Eryngium planum variety to you? Unfortunately I'm going to have to dig mine up in the spring as they just are not appropriate where I planted them.

Would appreciate any thoughts you have.
