WAHHHH!! No green here! We just finished with another winter storm. :( Thankfully we didn't get the 15cm they had forecasted. Only got 2 or 3cm from the looks of it, and with the windchill this morning, it was a balmy -30! But, they're forecasting +4 by Sunday, so there's hope. :0)

Actually a couple of days ago, when it was melting, I did see a couple of the bergenias and a sedum were fairly green. But most of my flowerbeds are still under 2 feet of snow.

We got that same storm - it was really a howling blizzard - and it dumped at least 10 cm so we're not putting away the snowblower just yet. We have got soooo much snow, I don't know when I'll see green.

Same here with the snow - it looked like it was trying to hit us with another blizzard - at least this time the snow was light and fluffy - my cat was really annoyed. Mocha is a house cat with supervised back yard adventures. He had been looking at the mounds of snow on either side of my walk to the gate as if it was the grand canyon. The past few days with the melting he was thinking that the yard might be available for exporation soon - yesterday he sniffed at the open back door - looked at the falling snow - sneezed and stomped [15 pounds of ragdoll kitty] back into the living room. Poor Mocha poor me poor us - I want SPRING

Most of my garden is still under snow...a good 2 feet of snow. We have been having interesting weather, big heavey snow flakes, then rain then more snow....but nothing is really piling up now. With the rain, the snow is going down fast. I can see the top of the compost pile that didn't get put on the gardens last fall. :O And I am just happy to see green. :-)

I thought this was a thread about spinach! LOL

We've seen some melting but only one little thing is showing and it's green - some carnations planted along the edge of the sidewalk near the front door. Of course it's pretty cold again now, so they might not like that much.

The two week forecast says temperatures are supposed to hover around normal, which seems to be 0° or +1°. I'll take that - just not any more cold!!

Are you guys in Hawaii!! I've still got 3 feet of snow with no sign of dirt anywhere. The days are warming up but not melting yet and last night dipped down to -23C. They keep saying its going to warm, up but it never quite does. I'm hoping that when it does finally there'll be no messin' around! The snow here is fluffy right down to the ground so it should go quick and there isn't much frost in the ground at all. I'm thinkin' that as long as we get some good heat this spring, I'm going to have an awsome growing season with all the moisture to start things off with. Last year was so dry.

Has anyone noticed the flurries seem to be short lived w/ blue sky and sun between? More like spring sqaulls for sure. I even saw some clouds yesterday that looked distinctly like puffy summer clouds :^) Startin' to boogie...

I've got one bed that is free of snow but I can't get to it yet, due to the snow on the lawn. But, soon . . . . soon . . . . sigh . . .

Actually Sharon, I was dancin' just like your smiley this week. The neighbour across the road, pushed his snow across the road and into my yard all winter. I wasn't happy about this because he buried my fence and I was worried he might wreck my fence. However, I couldn't really say to much, because there is a boulivard there that well..belongs to the city....even though he buried my fence on the property line. I live on a hill....so my property is higher than his....when we started to get milder weather and rain, his snow started to melt...and guess what...it went down the hill. LOL!!!! He spent the last week out there scooping up water and pushing it down the road.......I suspect his garage and basement were flooded. :-) When the snow all melts, we'll see how my fence faired....he may be replacing my fence if there is any damage.

Its kind of a grey day today, don't know if we'll get rain or snow, but its dark enough to get something.

Keep on boogieing, let that snow melt!

GREEN! It's SPRING!

My lilacs and the trees around town are starting to get that "far-off viewing" tinge of green- you know the look where if you look at one close up, it looks dead and brown, but from afar, it has a hint of green tips?

My daylilies up against the house are 6 inches high, tulips, grape hyacinth, and iris are a couple inches, and a few of my new pale crocus are BLOOMING! In two beds that still need cleaned I can see the stuff I let self-seed beginning to sprout, so I'd better hurry with the cleaning! Another couple beds, however, on the blvd and the north sides of buildings, are showing nothing but weeds.

And there's the part that's the hardest to accept- lot of the greenery that starts showing even before the crocus is weedy grass and the darn weed seeds that get blown to the yard all winter! I think most of the weeds are about to dwarf my crocus blooms and it's still too icky out to actually spend more than a couple minutes at a time weeding or cleaning! At elast it's the variability of spring icky, with ferocious winds and cloudy skies, and not snow!

Wow Vrie, Sounds like you are quite a bit further a head of us with the snow leaving.

My north side garden holds the snow till may. However, I think that is what helps get some of the borderline perennials to survive our winters. So although it annoys me, I am also very thankful that it helps protect the plants.

The only thing green so far I have spied is some sweet william that went into winter that way and are now uncovered..we got some yucky snow this morning and now its raining..everytime you step out the door you have to go eenie meenie minie moe on what to wear right now..hahaha..savona

I think the main reason we're so ahead is our chinook winds. When it gets howling here it can reach 70 degrees (like last week) and everything melts, but the wind is 70mph too, so you can't DO anything but watch weeds grow! Unfortunately, that freeze-thaw cycle wipes out alot of plants that SHOULD survive! And eliminates the lilac bloom every couple years

Yippee!! I'm doin' that spring dance now, Sierra! I went for a walk around today and did find a few things that are actually starting to grow.

I've noticed that my little yucca seedlings and some irises are still green, so I'm hoping they'll stay that way. I also noticed that there's some new little leaves coming on the hollyhocks. And here's a pic of shoots on the fern leaf peony:

And the ranunculus that I got from Brenda, is growing too. I can't beleive it.....I think it's going for world domination!lol

It's melting here too. It's supposed to get up to 17 degrees today!!!. Took a walk around and noticed that my danica globe cedars came through...planted them last year and I was told that I should burlap them but I never did...boy am I glad they survived. They were covered with snow all winter. Edelweiss is green and looks healthy. I can't see anything else because they are all covered in mulch. I hope my endless summer hydrangea comes through..another one that I was told to burlap but didn't.

Great description. Know that feeling. We call that 'tinge' a slightly green patina...'just barely there'.

Stuff coming up everywhere today. All types of bulbs. The primulas are plumping up, native geums 'greening'. Unknowm shoots poking out...a trace of Leopards Bane leaves and a Coltsfoot leaf...puple phacelia leaves unfurling...every day a new treat.

Well - spring is really here - I'm suffering from snow mold allergies that have triggered my asthma - oh well a small price to pay... I successfully tested yet another plant in the Fern torture test and I am happy to report that "Bowles Variety Myrtle" overwintered in my backyard in the 4 inch pot that I bought it in - I never did get it planted last year - it dried out for much of the summer spent the winter under a snow bank and is beautiful green right now. Unfortunately I don't think that the same will be said of the "brunette" bugloss or bugbane or whatever that I saw come out from under another snow bank... some tear I won't buy plants until I have the bed ready to plant them

By the way Gardenscape was an inspiration and I bought 2 University of Saskatchewan lily bulbs - they are in my cripser until I figure out where they will be planted

When I was poking around yesterday, I found some new leaves on the yarrow and strawberries. My dianthus is still a nice shade of green and there's new growth just starting on soapwort and snow-in-summer. Naturally, we have a winter storm watch in effect for tonight and tomorrow, but it doesn't sound like it will get too cold.

See Laurie, if you look hard enough...there is green and it is SPRING!!!

I did some wandering around my yard yesterday, it was a beautiful day here. The tulips in the bed mentioned above are now about 4 to 5 inches tall. The crocus are also showing in that bed. In the bed on the other side of the walk, the tulips are just poking their little heads through. In the back along the path...the tops of the old lily stems and the roses are starting show now.

The rest is still covered with snow. Usually in April, we remove the snow from the veggie garden..so it drys out faster and I can plant some things earlier.

Ohhh, i have green dianthus foliage too! Forgot to mention it in the other thread. And columbine foliage along the sidewalk. And sempervinum in the cedar planter! :)

We need some sun to melt the snow some more. We've had several really grey days here - all day yesterday up to this morning, the fog was really thick and spooky. Sun tomorrow, i think, but not as mild as they originally predicted - +7°, but it's better than -7°!
