I bought one as a bedding plant at a greenhouse and it did well but I never really used it. It certainly was very sweet. Grew in the garden till frost.

I grew some from seed, the plants had done well, though wasn't overly impressed with the sweetening ability ... it's sometimes stated for one to use a few leaves to sweeten a hot drink, yeah it kinda did, but it also gave a weird taste we had not liked, though chewing on the fresh leaves the taste was fine, so it's probably best in cold drinks, but best if one would crush the foliage.

I have purchased the Stevia powder and really liked it, a little bit goes a long ways and the container had lasted a long time.

I grew some from seed but it was a tough year with two severe hailstorms in July and the plants never did very well. I tasted some leaves and they are indeed super-sweet, but I don't think the leaves themselves would be a very good sugar substitute, plus it tastes sweet, but not really like sugar. Expensive seed too -- mine was $2.50 for ten seeds, six years ago. It was an interesting novelty, but I won't be growing it again.
