Alaska Cruise Gardens?

This is probably a strange request and it certainly shows just how obsessive a gardener can be!

I'm going on an Inside Passage Alaskan cruise the first week in August and was wondering if there are pretty gardens to visit in Juneau, Ketchikan, Vancouver or Skagway.

Yeah, I know there are excursions available at each place, but I would be happy just to walk through a garden that is certain to be much different from my Orlando Florida garden.

I grew up in North Dakota so I understand your growing season can be short, however in early August it should be close to perfection, right?

If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know.

If you don't have a garden recommendation but can offer advice on a favorite nature hike, that would be good too.

I have no idea about Alaska, but one of Canada's most famous public gardens is Butchart Gardens north of Victoria. I don't know if your cruise will be stopping at Vancouver Island but if it does and you have time, the Butchart Gardens are worth it!

Have fun on your cruise. I hope someone can help you more with Alaska info.

Oh yeah, and if you don't get any help here, try the Northwestern Gardening forum. I think more people from coasta BC would be on that forum.

Go to "Cruisecritic.com, Boards, Ports, Alaska" and submit your question. I'm sure someone will answer you. And yes, the gardens should be in their glory then.

I just heard about this garden in Juneau in Master Gardening Class. It looks pretty interesting to me.

Hi Kate,

I just happened to come across this site when I was going through some old gardening magazines. It does list some great gardens in the Vancouver area. The only thing is, I don't know how you will get to them without paying an arm and a leg in taxi fare. Hope you can find something on this site that you can get to.
