Finally a diagnosis.....

I haven't been posting lately.....

As some of you know my wife Pam has been sick.....July 2013 she was in the hospital in serious condition.....she recovered some and we busted out but she never fully recovered...... weak muscles / headdrop......Drs and more Drs.....MRIs Cat scans....spinal pain injections and even (stupidly) neck Botox........No answers...........

July 2014 she's critical again......this time we end up in a different hospital with New Drs and they ask "Who's her Neurologist ?" .....she dosen't have one......Then they dropped the bomb......It's ALS......LouGehrigs Disease......The beneficiary of the IceBucketChallenge.....The nerves no longer communicate with her muscles

She's been sick for so long.....we've had to blindly "accept" and embrace this diagnosis until we can get to Mayo Clinic in Jax for a second opinion and support.....that will take several months due to her present condition....until then we're home

As our World shrinks we can't afford to lose our good friends here.......Not the kind of news you expect to find on the gardenweb.....Don't forget us

Posting from Orlando near Leu Gardens......dougandpam

here's Pammie in the garden a couple years ago...............

Oh, Doug, I'm so sorry for you both, but if you haven't gotten confirmation yet, there's still hope. FWIW, back in 1999 both my endocrinologist and local neurologist were convinced I had ALS, but the head neurologist at U of M took one look at the scans and said, "You don't have Lou Gehrig's disease. You don't even have Lou."

I hope and pray that happens for Pam and you.

Doug, I am so sorry to hear about Pam. I have been out of the loop due to health issues and I am dealing with kidney failure and dialysis just to name the worse. I am always here for you if you wish to talk or if you need someone to stay with Pam while you run errands or I am willing to run your errands and go shopping for you. My heart goes out to both of you and I will keep you both in my prayers. Linda

Hi, Doug. When my dad was diagnosed with ALS a few years ago (at the age of 80), we were blindsided...never, ever saw it coming. (Yes, we all passed around the Ice Bucket in his memory.) Hoping Pam is receiving the best care right now -- do as much reading as you can to keep as informed as possible. Don't try to 'go it' on your own -- reach out for help from local family, friends, neighbors. My thoughts are with you and Pam.
