unproductive fig tree

I have a Petite nigra in a 15 gallon container that have produced figs in 2 years. It doesn't seem to produce any new branches, and its growth seems stunt.

It gets fertilized about 3 times a year, it usually grow leaves with no figs.

I wonder if I should give it a severe prunning at this time of year, would that encourage new growth? in the other hand I don't want to lose any chance of it forming a breba crop.

That sounds like mine, except in ground. Litle to no growth, very few fruit. Mine has definitely had fertilizer to no avail.

Jon, did you prune it at all? i'm wondering if that will push new growth.
It had to be productive somewhere, otherwise why was this variety selected! what possibly happend, that the mother tree was productive, probably the limb that was first selected didn't carry on the full genes of the mother plant.

If I pruned it, I wouldn't have a tree, at all.

I would say, just be patient with PN fruiting, also
check for any possible (infamous stunting) RKNs...

It did not have RKN, and it is 10+ years old.

Ten year old!! Time to get another one!! Mine was a (slow)
good tasting keeper fig (from Park Seeds)...
