I have a few tulips up about an inch high by the front door. It rained yesterday and melted a lot of the snow and ice in the driveway as well......however they are calling for snow in the next week. :-(

i have tulips, hyacynth, colchineum (sp), daylilies, and irises up all over. It's been an interesting winter- they were up before and now they have little black tips from the little snow and lots of cold earlier this year-- but no damamge from the LAST snow (over 10 inches)

I just found today-- my grape hyacinths are blooming in one flower bed!

Amazingly early for grape hyacinths...which aren't even among the earlier of the spring bulbs. Are they right up against your house?

"Right on schedule" here means 15 inches of hard-packed snow is still on the ground. Maybe 30 days from now spring bulbs will emerge?

Nah, Jan - the sun is warm and is going to have all that snow melted within a couple of weeks. My prediction! After all, the robins have to be back by the first or second week of April and they need to have a bit of ground to peck around in. Last year we had so much snow and it was amazing to see how fast it all melted.

I just checked last year's pictures. On April 6th, the yard looked like it does now, about a foot of dirty, ugly snow. A week later, it was gone and there were crocuses blooming on the 12th. It's coming!

theyre near the foot of the house but the main thing is the ones that are slowly blooming are on the south side with afternoon sun-- the east beds only have a couple tulip leaves on the SE corner and the west beds have leaves everywhere but the grape hyacinths are up but not blooming-- the north side of the bed is just beginning to see a few tulip leaves up. all of the beds im talking about are around the base of the house. The other beds arent even thinking about it!

Now it gets me thinking about that corner of the lot i want in flowers this year

I keep meaning to add a bit more soil to this area, but the tulips don't seem to mind! :)

My south side tulips look just like Marcia's. I just planted them in the fall so I don't when they would normally be up - I always thought my other tulips were very late but they are planted in parts of the yard that have a lot of snow still.

OK heres the photo update! Today was over 60F! Kids were out in the yard sunning themselves and wanting to play in the water! You can tell we're a bunch of northerners! And true to being northerners, we will be under a winter storm watch effective tomorrow! Anyway, before the camera batteries died I took a couple. All of my bulbs have been here forever before I bought the house-- I wish I could have shown how many are really up, but the darn batteries hate me!

Also, a few little snow crocuses started blooming on Thursday (maybe earlier; I was away for a couple of days) - the opening acts for the first big show of the year! It's coming!

Oh my gosh. I am so jealous. Yesterday I thought I'd try to check out the stems on my roses in the middle of the yard. Couldn't even get to them. I was sinking in 2-3 feet of snow yet. The snow level all over my yard is now just below the top of my kids trampoline. I have pushed up banks still 8- 10 ft tall. I think I'll have snow until July. On the bright side, I'm sure that this snow has insulated everything so well that all my plants should come through the winter fine. Some of my other roses that I can get to are green to the tip. I've always had some die back before.

Sazzyrose, don't feel bad. I still have lots of snow over here as well. It is melting, but it is taking it's time. I'm going over to show a friend how to prune her fruit trees today, I think I'll bring my snowshoes just in case.:P

I'm jealous too... I'm just north of abgardeneer & nothing showing here.. Plus we just got a dump of wet snow this morning.. Maybe that will give things a boost..

Well, some moisture would actually be good. Even if that snow doesn't come our way, I'm sure we'll still get a couple of dumps later on...if recent history is any indicator, we'll get a week or 10 days of freezing weather and snow when all the tender growth is up... sigh.

Hepatica transylvanica (clickable thumbnail)...just a baby though; hepaticas become really spectacular as they mature! This species is supposed to be earlier-blooming than H. nobilis, and this year, seems to be proving it.
