I have never had that problem with my blue fescue. What about putting some ant bait beside the fescue? Some people drench their ant hills with Sevin. Good luck in getting rid of them.

I have some diazonon that I use here for the ant problems that I get on our acreage, but it is not available to buy at stores anymore.

Ready for a good laugh? I have no idea if it really works, but I read somewhere to..... PEE ON IT! Okay, stop lauging! I'm serious, I read a thread about it on one of the other forums here and it worked. The lady conned her husband into going outside after dark to pee on the anthill and reported back a couple of days later to say that it worked.

I wouldn't try this myself, but I would probably try to twist DH's umm.... arm, lol. So if all else fails, you have another option. You'll have to let us know if it works. Watch out for the neighbours, lol:)

I haven't noticed a preference for grass clumps. Ants do have a preference for a sandy patch of soil, though. I've used a Malathion drench on bad infestations and it works. Isn't Borax mixed with sugar supposed to work, too?

I have noticed ants like brick walls, boulders, pavers and sand. I had to get rid of a huge ant nest behind a retaining wall last summer and I used those Raid baits with the two flavours in. It took 3 cans and a few weeks but they are good & gone now. You have to replace the can religiously or else they eat it all and don't all die.

My yard is an ant haven, Pudge is correct, borax mixed with sugar works very well.

Thanks for the input. I know I have to kill the ants, but I think I'll pass on the Peeing advise, LOL, as this clump is in the front yard! I have used the borax and sugar with success, but a word of warning. It kills the grass, so is not a good choice for ant hills in the lawn.
I'm glad to hear this isn't a common problem for grasses, though.

Hee hee, just had to see if I could convince someone to try it, lol.

I remember my Mom peeing in coffee cans located around our garden as that was her 'tried and true' method of keeping deer away. She would even leave the house and walk through the yard to go pee in the coffee cans. Fortunately we lived on acreage in the country so no one saw. I just realized, they're building their retirement house on an island where deer are as common as mosquitoes are here. Wonder if she'll start again? :P
