question for 'plantcompost 4' with apologies

A question plantcompost 4,

Apologies to all for the not-specific-to-forum-post! Hope I'm not breaking any rules, I saw a post on the bulbs forum from pc 4 about the harm done to wildlife by poisons used to kill voles -- posted this question there as a follow-up but it got buried, I did a search and found pc 4 often posts here, so thought I'd give it a try.

Question is: I'd like to use iron phosphate and/or coffee to try to protect hostas & dahlias from slugs, but I saw a toad in my garden last summer and don't want to risk hurting it, or other wildlife that might eat the slugs I kill. Could that happen or is it safe to use these things?

Thanks! And sorry again!

Alice
