No lawn.

I just played with my new Mantis tiller yesterday. I was tilling up lawn for my new lily bed. Sure beat digging with a shovel. I know that I will have to mulch it up several times, but it was sure alot easier. I belive it will be money well spent.

Sazzyrose, did the Mantis till up the sod easily? My parents are looking at buying one after they viewed the video, and are wondering if they're really as good as they claim? And are they easy to start?

Laurie, Nothing works like the advertisments, you know that. It took a bit of time, but it did chew away pretty good. It did get plugged up with grass a few times, but it's easy enough to remove. As for previous tilled garden soil, wow. It works the soil wonderfully. My garden was quite neglected last year because I sprained my back and I didn't get anyone to come in last fall to till it up with a tractor like usual so the soil is quite packed. But the mantis works this up like a charm. As far as starting, a couple pulls and away it goes. It doesn't sound like a mulcher, but more like a chain saw. I am quite happy with this product overall. I'm thinking that My ground was a little to wet under the grass when I first started tilling. I have let it sit a couple days and then tilled it again. It did dig deeper. In a couple days I'm going to go over this area again. Hope this helps your parents make their decision.

My DH bought me a birthday present last November that I almost forgot to get out and try - it's a little B&D handheld cordless edge trimmer. It's like a tiny hedge trimmer but the blades all stick out the front. He got it on sale because it was the fall. I wasn't sure if I would use it much but now that I have tried it, I really love it for tidying up around the edges of the lawn!

It's no rototiller or lawn tractor... LOL

I love my lit' Mantis too Shelley, never thought of using it to chew up sod...I'll have to see if it works.

Sharon, on the video, the Mantis chewed through a piece of plywood! Then, I suppose logically, it should go through sod like a hot knife through butter!LOL

Plywood? hmmm, I wouldn't try it. LOL
