The only one I have is Lambert Closse. I think it's a very pretty rose, and it's very hardy.

My mom had Alexander McKenzie a few years back. It was also very pretty and hardy(she's in zone 2a), but it out grew the size of the spot she wanted it in, so it got cut down. So make sure you give him lots of room.

One that you might not be pleased with is David Thompson, if you got alkaline soil, the leaves turn chlorosis.
Add lots of peatmoss when planting this one.

I had Champlain at my old house, it's a very nice rich red and flowers a LOT... the plant is a little spindly and floppy though. Own root roses especially take a year or two to thicken up. Champlain was better the second year than the first. It was hardy but attractive to rabbits in the winter so it got nibbled wherever it stuck out of the snow. >:0(

I was looking at HD today and their selection of body bag roses was even worse than usual. I'm going to wait for the own-root potted roses at Walmart, they were great last year. $6-8 seems to be the going rate for a good potted rose.

I grew Alexander MacKenzie when I lived in Fort McMurray - wonderful rose. The flowers are so hybrid tea like. I'm planning on ordering it once my husband digs me a really large flower bed - it needs lots of room.

Brenda, I have all of your list except for David Thompson. I love them all. I prefer the Explorers over the Mordens for disease resistance. You'll be pleased with them.

I have a Lambert Closse and it's wonderful. I see that it's zone 4 but it does fine in my NW Calgary Z3 garden.
