nostalgic about figs

I'll be closing on a house in monmouth county NJ (belmar)in a couple of weeks and am very excited to have a garden (I live in nyc). My Italian immigrant grandparents always had a fig tree (as well as an entire farm stands worth of vegetables growing in their postage stamp yard) and the ritual of unwrapping the tree at Easter (wrapped in old kitchen linoleum and tar paper) and eating them late summer is still fresh in my mind.

Any advice on what type of fig to buy that would do well in that area? I think there is a good bit of sun in the yard though I'm not even in the house yet and I'm planning the garden!

Thanks.
