Help please. There may be information on the forum about pruning roses but for some reason I cannot make the "search" box work tonight and I think I'm in trouble with my roses.

I have 3 roses: JP Connell, Lambert Closse and Prairie Joy. All three are 3 years old and have been super healthy and prolific bloomers - I love them all. There seems to be alot of dead on them this spring. The JP Connell was almost brittle but I saw some green growing at the bottom and just kept cutting him down - he went from being 3 ft tall to about 8 inches. There is still green growing at the bottom but I'm sort of worried about taking the same action with the other 2 roses. Both have some green at the bottom with the Lambert Closse having quite a bit of green all the way up several "stems". He is about 4 ft tall while the Prairie Joy is 6 ft. Do I prune them back really hard? Is there a method that I should employ?

Please give me much needed advise
