I was digging holes for my tomato plants today and nearly lost my little spade in what seemed to be an old gopher burrow. Just out of curiosity, I pushed a stake in to see how deep it would go. At the four-foot depth, I hit solid ICE! I tried this in another burrow and encountered the same result. This is in central SK. In the news, I read that the city of Winnipeg expects the ground to be frozen at the 10 ft depth into late June.
