I grew citrus many years ago in Ontario -- one each of lemons (Meyer), limes, and oranges (calamondin). I recall them being very succeptible to a change in conditions, where they would respond by dropping most of their leaves. I kept them mostly or entirely indoors, but in the end a spider-mite infestation sent them to the trash.

I think it would be difficult to grow them outdoors in the summer, and not bring pests inside in the Fall.

I agree with Don, I had grown several types of citrus and they're rather sensitive, very pest prone plants, I reluctantly decided they were not worth the effort.
