Wow Shelley, good for you!! What rooting hormone did you use? And what rose(s) did you try cuttings of? Some are really easy to root (The Fairy and New Dawn, I have heard as examples) and some are really hard (Harison's Yellow). I tried a couple of years ago with Harison's but they didn't take, and I found out later they are one of the harder ones. There's a tutorial on the ARS website that is similar to what you used, except I think the week in a glass of water is probably unneccessary.

I have some honeysuckle rooting right now. They seem to be doing really well, they have been in there 3 days and haven't even wilted. I'm hoping.

The rooting hormone that I used was #2. The rose that has roots is Winnipeg Parks. The other one is Topaz. They broke off with a heel(like in the info from ARS). I put them in water and had no intention of leaving them there that long but life gets busy sometimes. That is why they sat in water for a week. I will be trying to root more in the future.

A week ago I took Winnipeg parks out of the pop bottle and planted it up. It is looking really good. Lots of new growth. Today I see Topaz has lots of roots on as well. I'll slowly start to spread the bottle open with this one as well. Beginners luck? I wonder which rose I should try next. It'll be one of the Bucks for sure.
I'm not sure if I want to plant them out side yet. I have clear plastic hot caps that could go over them to retain moisture levels.

Oh darn it Marcia, Walmart near me has (had) own-root Champlains a week ago. That's where I got John Davis too. Do you want me to go back and see if he's still there? Are you planning on coming into Winnipeg this summer?

You know, i never got a chance to look at Walmart. Dh has a dr's appointment on Tuesday. Can i picture him going through the Walmart bodybags to find me a Champlain rose? I don't think so... LOL I'll see if my son is going to town tomorrow. His girlfriend might look for me. Othewise, Vesey's has it for $19.95, free shipping. If i can't get someone to get it for me, i'll order it. Dominion has it too, but i'd have to pay PST too and they charge shipping.

They weren't bodybags Marcia, look at the potted rose table if your WM has a garden centre, mine has a small selection of own-root hardy roses in the gallon pots for about $7 each. I think this is new this year. I was pretty excited, I don't mind telling ya. LOL

I'd really like to go to Winnipeg if it was just to meet some Forum people there. Mostly we've gone for doctor's appointments and hospital stays. Never fun stuff.

Once my Topaz starts to grow, I'll break more shoots off and try rooting more. I bought it a month ago or so and planted it out last weekend. It seemed to just sit at a stand still while in the pot. Of course I can't promise that they will make the winter, but theres always hope right.
Another suggestion is to check on the supplier that I get my local roses from. Her roses are huge and in 2 gallon pots for $13.95. The trunk on my Topaz is about the size of a quarter.
Zosels Tree Farm does ship but doesn't have a web site. I've talked about this place on the hardy cherry topic. Excellent place to do business with.

My two little rose bushes that I rooted this spring are growing great. Here is a picture of Winnipeg Parks. Topaz will be blooming shortly as well. My fingers are crossed so they make the winter.

Wow, Shelley, that's an awesome looking plant! I hope it makes it thru the winter for you too. I'm going to have to try rooting some again. I tried about 4 or 5 different kinds of roses about 4 years ago with no success.......you've inspired me to give it another go ;^)
