Fig newbie here

Hi folks,

I just ordered my first two fig trees and am really excited to plant them (they are being shipped now). I was wondering what are some good suggestions for preparing the area to plant them and what are the best spots to plant them in... do they like slopes? Rocky soil? Do they mind being surrounded by other plants? Do they like being up higher behind a stone wall or down below in the depressed area?

I got two trees one being Brown Turkey the other being Cardonia? I forget how it's called... but it's a green skin variety. I purchased these two based on the suggestions of the guy I ordered from at Willis Orchard for my area.

I am in far southern New York, on the hardiness map I am ranked in zone 6B- so very close to zone 7. I realize I will need to protect them for the winter.

What other tips can you guys from my zone provide for ensuring a healthy, good producing tree?

thanks!
