WANTED: Ricky's Fall Swap-a-que - call for invitations

RickyÂs Fall Swap-A-Que

Well, the leaves are turning color, thereÂs a nip in the air, and hurricane season is coming to a close again; must be time for a Swap-A-Que.

HereÂs the stuff you need to know in a handy outline format.

1. The date is November 4, 2007 - Sunday.

2. Where you ask? Ricky and KarenÂs Garden in Boca Raton.

3. When? Well, this is pretty flexible but, you can get here any time after 10am. Setup, walk through the garden, relax. Start swapping as soon as your swapees have arrived. WeÂll serve lunch around 12:30 - IÂll be pullin the pork and jerkin the chicken. IÂm hoping to have a guest lecturer speak on plant propagation techniques and thatÂll happen around 2pm. Since itÂs November and the bugs have gone back to the Âglades, we invite you to stay for sunset cocktails around 6pm - BYOB.

Everyone is invited. Simply send an e-mail to rickyg and remove these words at and remove these as well fawnridge dot com and I will send you the invitation by return e-mail. For those of you whoÂve never been here before, this is necessary because we live in a gated community. Your invitation gets you through the gate with no delay and thereÂs a map attached as well.

I have quite a few plants already promised to folks but please remind me on this thread, as this is the only one IÂll be monitoring.

Now, just a brief word about desserts - far be it for me to deny anyoneÂs desire to create a dessert and bring it to share. But keep in mind, when the day is done and you are gone, all the leftover desserts will be either given two the two children across the street, who already have several cavities thanks to our group, or tossed in the trash. I have no willpower whatsoever when it comes to sweets so they must be taken away from me immediately. My suggestion is to make a small amount of whatever dessert you bring. No one will be able to eat everyone one of them even if you made enough for the whole crowd anyhow. Also, IÂm not going to make my baked beans this time, only because weÂre both tired of eating them and want to taste someone elseÂs beans instead.

Last word - touring the garden: DonÂt miss seeing the outer perimeter. We have lots of paths through the center of the garden, but there some specimens on the outside that you can only see from the grass perimeter. I always forget to take folks there, so remind me as we walk. For the Croton collectors - please bring large Ziploc bags but leave your clippers in your car. I have quite a few Crotons that are in need of a hard cutback and I will be more than happy to trim them for you.

    1) I am there

    2) We are trading tipu for red orchid and lady's slipper croton

    3) I was in collusion with the local garden club re Kate's swap - can I extend your invite to them?

    4) Can I bring a side salad?

    5) OR can I tempt you with dessert? I won the world famous (if you define your world = Oviedo FL) citrus dessert competition this year with caramel chocoloate mousse and candied oranges. I beleive in making sure that if I am making a high caloric investment it better be damn good!!

    6) But a side salad is ok too - let me know!

    7) To those of you with whom I a trying to develop a make up plan for Kate's swap. I am going to start a separate thred on that so not to clutter this theme.

    Anyone still interested in swaps? I've received 3 regest from this thread. Perhaps swaps are dead and we should just let this one die as well.

    I sure hope you don't cancel, your swaps are always such fun!

    I just thought it was weird. The last few swaps we posted had 20 or 30 invites the first week. Two so far. And with what happened with Anita and Kathy, I've been getting some strange vibes from our usually friendly group. Might just be the phase of the moon or some cheap whisky, but I'll wait a while and see what happens.

    PEOPLE, WE CANNOT LET THIS SWAP DIE! This can't mean the end of (to die for)pulled pork as we know it. If I have to, I will go and eat your portion. Urp!

    Hi Ricky and Karen,

    Sorry Steve & I haven't responded sooner. After confirming for both Treefrogs and GrowGrow's and then missing them, I wanted to make absolutely sure we could be there! It's just been one of those summers, and now one of those falls! We WANT to come, I'm just trying not to jinx myself again!

    Ricky, I want to come with all my heart and soul, but I doubt I am going to be able to make it due to finances and worrying if we will have a roof over our heads at that point. I place your swaos as the pinnacle of my year and they are the mini vacations I get. PLEASEM PLEASE don't let them die. It would be a nuclear bomb in my world. If I don't make it I will be there in person. Linda

    I have them on disc but with everything going on around here never looked at them. I will get the disc out and see what we have. He took tons of pictures and some of every plant in your garden. I am so sorry for not posting them. Linda

    I am looking for a white bat plant, anyone have one to trade?

    I haven't set up the usual trades, as there is a possibility we won't be able to make it. A family member is terminal in NJ and we'll have to go to the funeral. So I thought I would just bring plants and see what happens, if I am able to come. ;o)

    BTW, it was Kate's swap that fell through, nothing to do with me. :o)

    If you don't mind I would love to come. I have not been to a swap ihere in a couple of years but used to host them when I was living in CT. I do have some stuff already potted up but will start getting more stuff together and will post a list.

    Oh yeah, is anyone making baked beans? Or tater salad?
