I would be lost without my daylilies, delphiniums, and asiatic lilies, in that order.

Hands Down...Globeflower. But not the little flowered kind and not the big orangey colored one with the spikey flower center (although those are cool!)...but the type with medium sized flowers that are bright yellow. Now I don't know the latin for this plant and I don't have a photo, so I'm probably not much help, but it's a great plant because it's tough and it blooms way earlier than any other perennials I've got. Mine came from a neighbor who got hers from her mother years ago.

Maybe someone else here knows which plant I'm talking about and could clue me in!! If I can find a photo I'll post it.

I would love to start a succulant garden, and add different kinds of alliums to it. I would start with a nice ground cover, like a carpet sedum, and add Hens and Chicks for texture, and a spikey stonecrop for contrast. And you can't have a succulant garden without a showy Autumn Joy, although it would be neat to get one of those varigated cultivers. Than I would plant lots of allum bulbs in the spaces left, varying heights and colors. I could accent it with field stone, and it would only require occasional watering. How great is that?

I am making a new bed this year. I am mostly going to put asiatic lilies in it. I am also moving my perennial geraniums,(I just love these plants) some blue and purple sage, asters, and fleabeane.(Another favorite) I will have roughly 80 lilies to put into this flower bed, but I won't have the impact that I want until next year as some of the lilies that I've bought have been potted and are blooming already. I'm really enjoying them now though. I might add a couple of peonies. My grandmother has some and I've been telling her for the last couple of years that I wanted some of her plants and I haven't taken the time to get them.
My favorite flower bed is my rose bed. This is definatley my baby. Everyone knows that.

Tootsie, Globeflower is Troliius, probably T. cultorum, by your description. I'm glad to hear that you like it so much. I planted one last year and I'm anxious to see it bloom. It seems to be coming back very well.

I'm a big fan of bearded iris. I've had some in every garden of mine since I was a little girl. I'm really hoping, this year, to get some different varieties going. I also love annuals, because they allow me more versatility from year to year. I can't live without stocks, schizanthus, sweet peas, osteospermum - simply too many that I love.

I have so many perennials in my holding garden to choose from it would be hard. My holding garden is basically full and I am not sure whether I want to start another flowerbed at this time. But hypothetically speaking...for the outside and front of the flowerbed I would plant shorter daylilies, miniature irises, fern peonies, sedums, veronica, pixie lilies, mini spireas, lamium and silver mound. For taller plants more in the center... heliopsis, peonies, taller daylilies, regular peonies and monkshood.

I also have lots in my holding bed. My favorites to put in any beds are veronica spicata,liatris, foxy foxglove (I love foxgloves), daylilies and hostas. I also like to add astilbes, and columbines. Marg

It's nice to know that others also have a holding bed/garden. I turned one of my vegetable gardens into a holding bed for perennials and shrubs. There are still asparagus and dill (WEED) in there but the rest are all perennials and shrubs. I just have to be sure to move the shrubs into a permanent location before they get too big.

Peonies, hardy geraniums and lilies. Peonies are like a staple plant, i think. Even though they only bloom in the spring, their foliage is attractive for the rest of the summer and fall, and makes a nice background for later-blooming plants. Like lilies. :)

Hmmm, I would definitely plant Lilies, Roses and Delphiniums ;)

For me, I certainly wouldn't be without my lilies, daylilies, roses, peonies, iris, hostas and bulbs like tulips and daffodils. In most of my beds, depending on how big they are, I also like adding a flowering shrub or three, and also some evergreens. I tend to be a plant "collector", so my beds are very mixed.

I can't live without daylilies, daisies, roses & tulips. Plus I'm a big fan of reliable hardy perennials like catmint and dianthus and columbine. I generally fill in between the perennials with cutting flowers like cosmos, sweet peas, etc.

If we moved tomorrow (hypothetically speaking....LOL) and I had a blank slate to work with I would definately do perennials like peonies, irises, columbines, daffodils, tulips, chionodoxa, belamcanda, delphiniums, heuchera.... this list could be endless... LOL. I love my annuals too though, I have been growing Lavatera every year since I first tried it in my first "real" garden. I also really love nemophilla -- one called "Baby Blue Eyes" is on my favourites list because it reseeds beautifully every year.

All my flowerbeds are mixed..one of them is mostly perennials with all the rest mixed with annuals..I love roses,delphs,lupins, lilies,foxglove,columbines,day lilies and iris..the last few years I love to add annual holly hocks and dahlias. After planting out I always have a whack of poppies I go around and fill in any left over areas. It seems to be a yearly thing to start petunias,pansies,dianthus,snapdragons and calendula for the beds.About the time I feel satisfied the flowerbeds are where I want them I find another flower or plant to lust after..hahaha...savona

They would be Peonies, lilies, Rugosa roses, peach-leafed bellflower, bleeding heart, pansies, creeping phlox and Dianthus deltoides.
I also like Tanacetum coccineum.
