If they are paper wasps you will need to find their nest and remove it. I don't know how you will find it but it will be around somewhere, like a giant grey turnip hanging underneath something. You can buy a can of Wasp & Hornet Raid that shoots about 15 feet so you can stand back and hose it down. Aim it into the hole underneath. When the wasps are dead you have to remove the nest (and any parts that are stuck to whatever it's on) and burn it, and they won't come back. Hope you get rid of it! Allergies are scary!

If you locate the nest, kill it at night when all the wasps are inside of it.

There are all kinds of Wasp Traps available these days, I know Lee Valley Tools carry a couple of types.

Last year we had thousands, I haven't seen any around this year. I think thats because when the guys were doing the roof last year they found a nest in the eavestroughs, one young guy jumped right to the ground, swatting away, thankfully he wasn't hurt.

The wasp traps work pretty good. One of our Grade 5 teachers did a test with her science students a few years ago. They made homemade traps out of pop bottles, and tried different attractants. I think beer was one of the best, along with a mix of orange pop and corn syrup. You can even trap a lot of wasps just by leaving pop cans outside with an inch or so of pop in the bottom. My middle DS is allergic to wasps/bees, too. The reaction is really scary. If you're going to go after the wasp nest, early in the morning is good. They all head for the nest overnight, and they're slow and dopey when they're cold.

I agree with everyone here, it sounds like you have a nest close by.

Last year I got stung carrying groceries into the house. The darn nest was under the front steps. My hubby and son have anaphylactic reactions too. I hired an exterminator. No more stings for me!

BTW insects are more attracted to some people than others. I think it has something to due with carbon dioxide.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I think I'll head into town tomorrow and pick up a couple of traps. I was out looking around and saw a nest (6" accross) in the kitchen ceiling where the facia is off...guess I'll be getting an exterminator too, since I did some research and found out that spraying them, once they're in the walls, will only cause them to go deeper. :-P

So...since I posted the original message this morning, I've had 4 great big bumble bees, and one regular sized one make their way into the house (going to go check my foundation for little cracks/holes tonight once it cools off for the evening or maybe first thing in the morning(and hopefully the little critters are gone for the night.)

I don't mind bumble bees outside, but I think anything in the house is fair game!! (Death to all!! ;-) At least I'm getting my swatting average up...think it'll make batting any better??
