New Fig Tree

Hello All,

This is my first post here. A friend recently gave me a small fig tree, which I am very excited about. It's thin, about 15 inches tall, 9" old growth, 6" new this year. My friend recommended that chop the tree down to just above the bottom node to encourage a stronger, thicker growth.

Is this sound advice? Do I need to do anything special, or simply chop it with scissors and place the stubby plant in pot outside?

I understand that fig trees are very resilient, but I'm a little hesitant to just chop and see what happens.

Thanks for any advice you may have!
