What's wrong with my fig tree?!

This is Michael, my fig tree. I've had him since I was ten years old. This Spring he didn't bloom like normal, only a few sprouts, some branches look dead, and this is happening on his lower trunks... Any ideas as to what this is? I always keep an eye on Michael and I've never seen this trunk twist nor the brown patch on his trunk...I really hope it isn't canker. I googled it and of course, like diagnosing oneself on WebMD, the worst diagnosis matches all the symptoms.

I have no idea but obviously you have thought to take cuttings just in case?

If your location is Chapel Hill, NC (assuming your 'zone' listing is really your zip code), then your fig tree likely was frozen back and damaged by the hard winter this year. Give it some time, see how it bounces back. Later in the season, maybe early summer, prune out what wood is really dead.

And as noted above some backup cuttings, so you can replant or have more trees would not be a bad idea.

I have something similar, and after some research I think it looks like canker -fungus( I really hope it's not). check this out-
