Although both are from the mint family, Catnip's botanical name is Nepeta cataria and Catmint in my garden is called Nepeta mussinii.

Cats also absolutely ADORE catnip. They roll around in it and make a mess. I try to plant it where they can't do any damage. We're on a farm, so its only our cats in it. I don't think I'd recommend it for town. Catmint is also much prettier. My catnip tends to be a big sturdy raggedy thing, while the catmint is decorative with nice little blue flowers.
