if they came out of the trunk, they might be suckers.im only a begginer so i dont relly know.if the main trunk is leggy its in too shady a spot and you could try to prube it to bush it out.

Suckers come from the ground mostly from roots (or always from roots) and branches come from the trunk (like suckers will have branches later).
Without any picture or any other info about the tree, it appears that the fig tree has been left to itself to spread whicheverway it would and it is a big tree badly in need of big time pruning to bring it in shape and productivity. It has to see the direct day light for a good part of the day for proper growth and fruiting over the whole body rather than just at the tips. Big pruning of the lateral branches will bring new branch growth activities (resulting in good fruiting) near to the main trunk.
Other option is to cut it to the ground and let it grow as a multi-trunk bush. Think about the different pruning option before acting but pruning is needed if it has 29ft branches spread close to the ground.

or you could grow it as a vine on a trellis lol

A picture would help a lot.

could it be typo? inches not feet?

Ciao, Kindof sounds like a fig tree that was mentioned before on this forum, one that Fignut had, Like a weeping fig, I think she said hers was only at the end and came out. Search for Weeping fig on this forum. Ciao
