Debbie, was it planted last year or was it established already? Sometimes a newly planted shrub can be a little late in deciding when to leaf out. My hydrangea on the south side has started leafing out in the past week, so maybe because yours is on the north side it could be a little behind because it's a little cooler.

Have you tried scratching the bark a little with your fingernail to see if there's any green underneath? If you see green, then Annabelle's just a slow poke and will come to life eventually. :^)

I cut mine to the ground each fall (actually I should say that hubby does that). It has started growing shoots but it is on the west side of the house. Anything I have on the north side like hostas and japanese painted ferns haven't shown up yet. They did the same thing last year so I would wait a bit more before declaring gone.
